This Town

People often criticise what they don’t understand
When all they see are news reports of strife
But underneath the apathy and ever shifting sands
Exists a little thing that we call life
Industries have come and gone but people are the same
Surviving through these ever changing plans
But bricks and mortar don’t define the winners of the game
This is not the valley of the damned

This town is where I come from
This town is where I’ll stay
This town is where my hopes and dreams were made
This town is my identity
This town it shapes my destiny
This town is where the strongest roots are laid

People often reminisce about what it used to be
The places that we’ll never see again
But in the blind nostalgia one thing that they don’t see
The underlying spirit is the same
Jaded doubters patronise the efforts of the few
That try to make a difference if they can
And council planners disregard the feelings of them too
This is not the valley of the damned

This town is where I come from
This town is where I’ll stay
This town is where my hopes and dreams were made
This town is my identity
This town it shapes my destiny
This town is where the strongest roots are laid

People often mock us for our everlasting pride
At least we have a sense that we belong
We’ve everything to live for and nothing to deny
Our one sense of community is strong
In markets, pubs and cafes, the characters reside
The sights and sounds of true Bradfordia
With honesty and dignity we go about our lives
This is not the valley of the damned

This town is where I come from
This town is where I’ll stay
This town is where my hopes and dreams were made
This town is my identity
This town it shapes my destiny
This town is where the strongest roots are laid
