Too Many Chiefs

Living today by so many rules
Guidelines they say, to protect us from doom
Restrictions in place which are good for us all
To make us feel more safe
And keep us from harm’s way

Too many chiefs throwing arrows at me
Too many minds that will never be free
Too many dreams that have gone to the wall
Too many beliefs that are pushed on us all

Given the chance we would probably fail
To think for ourselves in intelligent ways
To learn from mistakes and know our own minds
With common-sense at bay
We are kept out of harm’s way

Too many chiefs throwing arrows at me
Too many minds that will never be free
Too many dreams that have gone to the wall
Too many beliefs that are pushed on us all

Raise a complaint and you’re frowned on by most
Question the reason – you’ll end up as toast
Sleepwalking into a world of control
Can you tell me where it stops?
This is suicide by cop
