Formative Years

Late 1989 – Early 1992
Ever since we first picked up instruments in our early teens, my best friend Paul Gooding and I made various attempts at making music and setting up a band, using various dubious names such as ”Psycho-Analysis”, “Typhoid Vaccine”, “Polaris” and “Spleen”. We played our first gig in October 1991 as “Polaris” at Wrose Community Centre, Bradford. The music was all very basic back then and not very good! We never had a bass guitarist and we used to rehearse in this old kitchen which was rented out as a rehearsal room by the guy at Fretz guitar shop on Westgate. Still, we had a lot of fun and when we played round at each other’s houses, we annoyed a lot of neighbours. I used to mess around at home sometimes making basic recordings on my old stereo too. Listening back now, it wasn’t very good granted but we were very resourceful and even back then, we wrote our own material.
